The Centre of Ignatian Spirituality of the Maltese Province (CIS) promotes the spiritual legacy of St Ignatius of Loyola (1491-1556). Ignatian Spirituality emerged from Ignatius’ own personal conversion and later spiritual experiences which marked him deeply for life. The Ignatian Spirituality aims to bring every person to enjoy a closer relationship with God the creator. More specifically Ignatian Spirituality is a prayerful journeying to discover and respond to God’s will for me now, in the present. CIS has been active in the Maltese Province for the past 30 years. At present CIS offers an extensive yearly programme of spiritual activities to the general public. During these last few years CIS has embarked in a formation programme to form lay and religious people in the art of spiritual accompaniment and retreat directing. There are some 30 people who have benefited from these courses of formation. Now they are active in collaborating in many of the Province’s ministries. The Parish Ignatian Ministry (PIM) has been launched recently to offer outreach-ministry in the community. This ministry aims at giving people a more profound experience of prayer on a one-to-one basis. PIM can also offer short and beginners training programmes on leadership to parish operators. PIM offers the services of its ministry to the many different groups in the local settings. 2006 unveiled a new set-up that is the Ignatian Spiritual Guides Association (ISGA). This association incorporates participants who successfully complete the CIS formation programme or a recognised training programme in spirituality. CIS is also in close collaboration with the three other sectors that form the Spiritual Apostolate of the
Maltese Province namely: - A yearly programme of spiritual activities to the general public - Evenings, Days or weekends of recollection - The full and individually guided Spiritual Exercises in daily life - Prayer experiences to individuals at Parish level by the Parish Ignatian Ministry team - Individual spiritual accompaniment - Training people with the necessary gifts as prayer guides and parish leaders - A 3-year training programme of Spiritual Directors and givers of Spiritual Exercises - Supervision and Consultation for spiritual directors and prayer guides - Prayer on-line
