Over four consecutive nights in the second weekend of February, packed audiences in the hundreds were thrilled by Sixth Form Soirée 2012 held in the Theatre of St Aloysius College. Over 200 students took part in the 3-hours plus shows onstage or backstage.

Well over thirty students opened the show with a terrific percussion item entitled Tisbit (literally: banging) which was followed by vibrant dance items Dance Revolution and Lol.i.Pop each involving as many students. The all-girl group Karma Skies captivated the audience night after night with the songs they performed for their stage debut, followed by the eclectic A Caveman’s Tale and the Stage Crew Item. The highlight of the Soirée was the musical We Will Rock You which took up the entire second half.

Weeks of painstaking rehearsals preceded the shows while getting the Theatre – which is still undergoing major renovation – up to scratch for the occasion was a challenge in its own right. For all young people taking part, the Soirée was much more than the great show it was – it was a hands-on experience in teamwork, problem solving and developing creative talent.
